NETZSCH is a multi-generation, family-owned German engineering firm founded in 1873 in Selb, Germany. Over its 150 years of continuous innovation, the company has grown from a modest firefighting pump workshop into a global leader in mechanical engineering, operating three business units: Analyzing & Testing, Grinding & Dispersing, and Pumps & Systems.
The Pumps & Systems division is renowned for its four positive-displacement technologies—progressing cavity, rotary lobe, peristaltic (hose) and multi-screw pumps—designed to handle complex, viscous, abrasive, or shear-sensitive media across industries worldwide.
In North America, NETZSCH established its presence in Exton, Pennsylvania as early as 1969, expanding its global footprint and reinforcing its position in key markets. Today, NETZSCH Pumps North America offers full manufacturing and support capabilities—including the NEMO® progressing cavity and TORNADO® rotary lobe pumps, sanitary models for food and pharmaceutical applications (FDA, 3A, EHEDG certifications), metering systems, macerators and more.
With an annual output of tens of thousands of pumps, backed by more than 70 years of deep pump-systems expertise and over 210 global sales representatives, NETZSCH ensures unmatched technical support and responsiveness across all key industrial sectors.
Company History
NETZSCH’s journey began in 1873 when brothers Thomas and Christian Netzsch founded a workshop in Selb, Germany, producing pump wagons for firefighting and agricultural use. By the late 19th century, their machines earned recognition for quality, with awards bestowed in Nuremberg and Munich.
Following management transitions—Gustav Netzsch in 1901 and his son Erich in 1929—the company expanded with a branch in Asch (Bohemia) in 1905 and relocated its headquarters there in 1931. As World War II unfolded, operations in Asch included around 200 employees; by 1946, the Asch facility was abandoned, and rebuilding began in Selb.
In 1952, NETZSCH launched its iconic NEMO® progressing cavity pumps, shifting pump production to Waldkraiburg, Germany by 1962 and expanding its sales network. The company grew internationally with the establishment of NETZSCH Inc. in Exton, PA in 1969, followed by expansion into Brazil in 1973.
Over the decades, NETZSCH introduced multiple-screw pumps in the late 1970s and rotary lobe pumps in the early 2000s, continually broadening its product portfolio. Celebrating 150 years of “Proven Excellence” in 2023, NETZSCH solidified its reputation for innovation, customer focus, and engineering leadership, marked by global celebrations and sustained growth.
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Progressive Cavity Pumps (NEMO®)
NEMO® pumps deliver smooth, low-pulsation flow, ideal for high-viscosity, abrasive or shear-sensitive fluids. These pumps excel in sectors including oil & gas, wastewater, food & pharmaceutical (with available sanitary versions) and battery slurry transfers.
Rotary Lobe Pumps (TORNADO®)
The TORNADO® series offers robust, hygienic pumping solutions. Featuring advanced lobe design and replaceable elastomer liners, they’re suited for sanitary, challenging media and high-purity applications. These rotary lobe pumps are FDA, 3A and EHEDG certified.
Peristaltic (Hose) Pumps
These pumps operate without wetted rotating parts, minimizing contamination risk and maintenance needs. They handle abrasive slurries and shear-sensitive materials reliably, making them a good fit for aggressive or hygiene-critical industries.
Multi-Screw Pumps (NOTOS®)
Multi-screw pumps ensure smooth, continuous flow and high pressure capability, effectively handling viscous, abrasive or multiphase fluids. They serve demanding industrial applications such as chemical transfer, refining and polymer systems.
Industries & Applications
NETZSCH pumps are trusted in a wide variety of sectors, including:
- Environmental and wastewater treatment
- Chemical and petrochemical processing
- Oil & gas (upstream, midstream, downstream)
- Food and beverage production
- Pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing
- Mining and mineral processing
- Pulp and paper
- Battery production and energy storage systems
